Our client's experience with GMS Building
“We were very pleased to have worked with GMS for our extension. Having had several friends complete extensions over budget and with lots of stress and falling-outs along the way, we undertook a lot of early engagement with potential contractors.
Of the four we initially invited to view the house and drawings, one never responded, one said they would only price the works if we guaranteed they would get it, and two said they couldn't price it but would complete it for a base fee and then on a cost-plus basis.
With winter approaching, we had to scramble to find others to look at it and fortunately were recommended Graham (GMS Associates). Graham was the only contractor who investigated the detail of the project and came back to us with a comprehensive breakdown and fixed price for the works. By the end of the process, he knew more about the project than we did.
The works started as planned and progressed in line with the programme, only slipping slightly through what was one of the wettest and windiest winters. Graham was able to mitigate the delay through staging the internal finishes from front to back, moving inside when the weather wouldn't facilitate external works and subcontracting certain sections of works to expedite and overlap certain critical-path works.
GMS Associates have a close-knit team, either family or long-standing friends, and it was reassuring to see the same friendly faces when reviewing the works. They all share the same high-quality work mantra as Graham, so much so that when we came to see Alex (plumber) on his last day, he was in the garage polishing all the copper pipework.
Graham himself is extremely diligent. He had a deep understanding of the design and the quality standard expected, which can be seen in the final result. He was a partner throughout the works, always coming with solutions rather than problems.
We agreed the final account for the project, in advance of completion, in line with our expectations, with additions only applied to design and specification changes requested by us.
Overall, we feel extremely lucky to have found GMS Associates for our work and Graham still pops in for a coffee whenever in the area.”
